SUBWAY MUSIC

Push push
rush rush wait a sec
hell with the train let it go
dig into your pocket
catch the show
steel pan
didgeridoo
accordion
Chinese harp
African drum
spare change
for subway music
every station
every nation
14th 34th 42nd 59th
run it up run it down
the numbers add up
to showtime underground
no cover no tax
listen to that sax
I want the CD
the sampler
the West 4th medley
the original run
the 34th St. riff
the 42nd St. stomp
so I can close my eyes
in subway nirvana
with the original cast

young amateurs old pros
music homegrown foreign
domestic unknown
music keeping me away
from the edge
taking me to another stage
music keeping me on track
on the beat fine tuned
in the groove on the move
time out of time
music taking me faster
farther than any train
express or local
uptown downtown
going here going there
for whatever reason
Summer Fall Winter Spring
listen to the man play
listen to the lady sing
a soundtrack backup
for alphabets on wheels
for graffiti clean trains
for trains like notes
CDEFG hit the B hit the A
for the time between trains
for the moment in play
