WALKING HOME
A slap of cold air
bruised blue the
covering of my skin
A bullying wind
caught me by the neck
twisting my hat
yesterday's newspaper
jumped from the grasp
of a fence
lodging at my ankles
like a homeless pup
a shutter beat with slaps
night pulled dark
over my steps.

UNEXPECTED
The language of the eyes
the innocence of not
knowing
a moment of light
and the passing of warmth
guarded by angels
hidden under clouds
while overlooking
the part of being
when not belonging
its roses and thorns
and words with tears
the area where shade
covers the steps
and protects the paths
of our unexpected
beauty

OUT THERE
A shred of sunlight
a mystery rising
without song
halting dreams
for another time
eyes open
like day lilies
testing morning
you get in the car
go beyond
where you should be
under approaching
clouds
and the edge
of limits
pushing hard
stirring the dust
past words
like
“come back”
